House Approves New Food-Safety Laws

House passage sets the stage for the Senate to take up the issue, though probably not until the fall.

The house has passed a food safety bill that increases inspection requirements, mandates that records of processing plants be made available to inspectors and investigators, and a requirement that processing facilities have elaborate safety plans meant to prevent food safety problems before a situation occurs.

FSSC 22000 Certification Scheme Approved by GFSI

In a press release today from the Foundation for Food Safety
Certification it was announced that the FSSC 22000 has been
approved by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI).

This means that FSSC 22000 will join the other GFSI approved
certifications schemes, and FSSC 22000 audits can start.

When the Scheme was introduced to the public at the GFSI meeting
in Barcelona earlier this year it received a very positive response.

FSSC Certification Scheme Documents Posted

The Foundation for Food Safety Certification has added the scheme documents to their website at:

The Global Food Safety Initiative will decide on approval of the scheme, and the documents could be changed during that process.
